Congenital Syphilis



Babies of mother with infections congenital syphilis have clinical signs : often low birth weight,abdominal distension due to big liver and spleen,jaundice,anemia.Some VLBW babies with congenital syphilis have signs of severe sepsis with lethargy,respiratory distress,skin petechiae,or other bleeding.Congenital syphilis also shows palm and soles : red rash,grey patches,blisters or skin peeling.If you suspect syphilis,do VDLR test if possible.Treat the mother and partner for syphilis and check for other sexually transmitted infections.(WHO)
